Step-1
Verification of Title

The publisher should apply online for title verification following the specified procedure and guidelines.

Step-2
Authentication of Declaration
  • Download the title verification letter from the RNI website and present it, along with a properly filled declaration (Form-I), to the forwarding authority (DM/DC/SDM/DCP/JCP/CMM, etc.) for authentication.
  • If the publisher and printer are different individuals, separate declarations from both are required.
  • If the place of publication and printing press are in different districts, separate declarations from both districts are necessary.
  • The publisher files a declaration from the district of the place of publication, and the printer files a declaration from the district of the printing press.
Step-3
Publication of Volume/Year-1 Issue-1
  • According to section 5(5) of the PRB Act 1867, volume/year-1 issue-1 must be published within 42 days of the authentication of the declaration for daily or weekly periodicity.
  • For fortnightly or above periodicity, volume/year-1 issue-1 should be published within 90 days of authentication.
  • If the place of publication and printing press are in different districts, the date of authentication of the place of publication's declaration is considered for calculating the 42/90 days for beginning volume-1 issue-1.
  • If volume-1 issue-1 is not published within the required time, a revised declaration should be filed, and volume-1 issue-1 must be published within the specified period
  • The publication should be printed in the press mentioned in the declaration and primarily contain news/views/articles. In bilingual/multilingual publications, content should be in all languages.

Guidelines to Print Masthead

  • Ensure distinctiveness of the title in the masthead, displaying it as verified without resembling existing titles.
  • Display the title in a uniform font/letter size, with no more than a 25% difference.
  • Display the title either horizontally or vertically.
  • In bilingual/multilingual publications, the title in the masthead should be displayed in any language of publication.
  • Do not mention periodicity in the masthead if not part of the verified title.
  • If the masthead title is in a language other than English or Hindi, display it in English/Hindi in smaller font size.
  • The masthead should carry a dateline with volume, issue number, date/month/year, periodicity, price, and publication city.

Guidelines for Imprint Line

  • Print the imprint line legibly, indicating "Printed by___ Published by___ on behalf of ___ (name of owner) __ and Printed at ( name and complete address of printing press) and published from ___ complete address of place of publication___ Editor ___."
  • In publications in languages other than English or Hindi, display the imprint line in English/Hindi for reference in smaller font size.
  • The name of the Editor in the imprint line should match the one mentioned in the declaration.
  • Ensure legibility by selecting an appropriate font size and placement, preferably at the bottom of page 3 or the last page.
